The Crown at Turners Hill sits in the heart of our little village, overlooking the green. The pub was once known as Canons Farm, part of the manor of Wakehurst. This 16th Century farmhouse with its 17th century barn which is still proudly retaining its Jacobean oak beams. The farmhouse was converted into an inn in 1706. Its long history includes tales of a secret passage to the Old Manse, a priest hole. Early in the 1700’s, this hostelry was a favourite stopping place for those driving their cattle to London markets. To this day, that traditional hospitality continues as the pub enters a new chapter of ownership in October 2025, and is handed over to Neil and Lindsey
